Sunset at Scarborough
I took these shots last night - the sun usually sets over the mountains where I'm from, not over the ocean!

Arriving into Perth and my first day of new job!!
In the Qantas Club |
I picked up my hire car and headed out to my hotel, which is right on the beach at Scarborough, just to the north of the city. The views are spectacular and I spent the afternoon (although it was quite cool and windy) walking along the beach. I wasn't quite game to take a dip in the water, because my feet told me quite clearly that it was too cold!
This morning I got up quite early (I'm still on Sydney time and Perth is 3 hours behind..) and went for a walk along the beach before work.
I used to work in this hangar, many moons ago! |
I stopped off at Woolies on the way back to the hotel to get some food so that I could make myself breakfast tomorrow morning, and have something to take in for lunch.
I think I've made a really good move joining this company, but I kind of feel like I'm on some kind of weird holiday....
Good bye Sydney |
Eyre Peninsula |
No idea where this is, but I like the squares!! |

All booked and ready to go!
I've got my flight details now for my trip to Perth and I'll be leaving on Sunday. When I get there, I'm initaly staying in Scarborough on the beach (for the first week - see the photo), then I'll be staying in down-town Perth until just before Christmas. I'm going to be doing training and inductions for a couple of months, so it will be a while before I actually get out on site.
I have my house-sitter all sorted which is great, so my house won't be empty when I'm away.
I also tied up some lose ends yesterday and today - finished my root canal, visited the physio to help fix my sciatica, went to the beautician (on one of those vouchers from deals.com.au) and then got my hair cut tonight. Life sure is busy when you are trying to organise things!
I guess my next post will be once I arrive in Perth!
Until then...

FIFO Internet searches
I've been doing some research on the internet about FIFO in general, and came across this article.... I think it sums it up quite well!
FIFO, FIFO: It's off to work I go
What do you think?

First Post
Hopefully this will be the first of many posts.....
I've just recently accepted a job with a construction company on a rail site in the Pilbara in Western Australia. I start with them at the end of November, so right now, I'm tidying things up at my old job in Sydney.
Fortunately, I get to do my Fly-in / Fly-out (FIFO for those who have never heard of it) from my home in Sydney, so I'm not busy packing up my life totally.
I will be flying to Perth at the end of the month for my inductions and stuff, which is exciting, because I've never been to Perth!
Anyway, enough from me for now, hope to post again soon!
